What's New, Tac?
Wands and Staves
You don't have to use
anything for magic if you
don't want to.  They're just
souvenirs, after all.  Even if
their "intended" purpose isn't
condoned by your religion,
they still make pretty
decorations and props for
Renaissance Festivals and
such.
Wands are used to aid in certain magic rituals.  They work by providing a focal point for energies, either from the user or stored in the
wand.  Sometimes, runes are carved in the wands to make them double as talismans.  This is useful when they're going to be used in
certain rituals every time and a little extra boost is needed for success.
Wands
Everyone knows staves can be used as walking sticks and weapons.  But they were also used in rituals, much the way a scepter was,
especially for warlike people.  A special ritual staff was marked with runes, either written runes or runes in the form of bones, feathers,
bits of fur and the like.  Sometimes both were used.  This staff could be used for manhood rites, the coronation of a leader, or as a symbol
of power for a judge in court.
