COLLECTIONS
Within my "Collections" pages my work is presented either by theme and / or painting technique. Each collection tells a story of how the pieces came into being. Enjoy the journey!

London Calendar
2025
This series grew out of many trips to UCLH, which I visit regularly to manage my chronic pain condition. Passing by those quiet, clinical white corridors; nerviously waiting for my appointments in the patient areas; having a lasting memory of the white industrial ceiling just before the general anaesthetic kicks in, I keep wishing that in those very painful and stressful moments there was something softer—something natural and soothing to rest my eyes and mind on. That’s what is behind the paintings which hope to bring nature into intimidating spaces. These works are my personal take on the traditional Chinese gongbi style—while I follow the same careful technique, the visual language is European, shaped by my background, but also with a nod to my long-standing love for Asian art. The flowers are carefully selected from the world that I see around me, each in full bloom in London in the month they correspond to.
I will add to this collection as I complete new pieces until it forms a 12-month calendar.
New Gongbi
From 2024 onwards
While utilising the painting technique of Chinese court painters, this is an exploration into non-traditional materials or inspirations from other cultures and their impact on our perception of the work

Calligraphy
From 2020 onwards
Japanese calligraphy, or shodō, is a traditional art form that blends writing with expressive movement. It’s not just about forming characters - it’s about capturing energy, rhythm, and emotion in each brushstroke. What might look simple at first is actually the result of years of disciplined practice, where every stroke is deliberate and leaves no room for correction. The brush, ink, and paper all respond to the movement and mindset in the moment, making each piece completely unique. It is a quiet, powerful way of expressing something deeply personal through practicing a tradition.
Suminagashi
2020
Suminagashi is an ancient art of ink printing from the surface of water, once used in divination rituals to read shapes and patterns as messages or signs. It’s a temperamental and unpredictable process—water shifts constantly, and the ink moves with it, changing form with time. Each print can only be made once, capturing a unique, unrepeatable moment. In this collection, the handprinted paper is paired with black card to frame and emphasize the shapes—whether organic or geometric—inviting the viewer to share seeing the image and its meaning, much like those early ritual readings.

Learning from Masters
From 2022 onwards
These are study copies made in learning the Chinese Meticulous Brush (court style) painting. In Asian tradition, learning to paint often starts by copying the masters because it’s the best way to absorb basics of techniques before finding your own style.
Other Traditions
From 2019 onwards
This section brings together work created primarily during my time at the School of Traditional Arts, alongside pieces from my ongoing bookbinding practice. It reflects a period of learning, exploration, and growing confidence in traditional techniques ranging from geometry and miniature painting to experimental bindings. Many of the pieces are rooted in historical references and methods, yet shaped by personal interpretation. Bookbinding, which I began teaching myself before formal training, became a space where I could freely experiment—guided less by rules and more by intuition. Together, these works mark the foundation of my creative practice.
